cortez, colorado
have you ever been to cortez? it’s the cutest little town in the southern part of Colorado. it was chosen as a destination for its practicality. it allowed us to stay close to the popular Four Corners Monument!
that was high on the list for Adam to see. the monument itself is a little underwhelming to be honest. we did get some photos and got to stand right in the center of the four states. that was pretty cool. what was even more entertaining was watching all the people taking pictures and kneeling down to be in all 4 states at once!
there are also quite a few booths with some items for sale that were handmade by some of the families who live on the surrounding reservations. we didn’t partake in that part though. we had stopped at a lookout previously on the way to cortez and found some beautiful items.
once we had our fill, we hit the road again. this was the day that our blessed van decided she needed some TLC. we have surpassed 2000 miles on her at this point. and lucky for us, it was our first time fully driving during the day. so when we blew a tire, the tire shops were all open. and the nicest man named Ralph stopped right behind us to look for his phone. he had some tools to help us out because we couldn’t find the jack in our van. it all worked out so smoothly and we got to meet Ralph! i swear, he disappeared right after we took off. we think he wasn’t entirely real because of how easy that whole situation was.
we were able to find a tire repair shop super easily and got a replacement tire for $40. once we hit the road again, our engine light decided to come on. lucky for us, we could get to a shop easily and sort things out. all in all, things were pretty minor! and lucky for me, Adam was able to fix the issues the next day. but that cuts into our stay in Santa Fe, so i’ll leave that for the next post!
