Boston
We had the best little weekend getaway planned to Boston. The best part? We were getting there by Train!! That’s something we’ve been talking about doing since we left Maui - riding a train. It was amazing. I was able to work on the ride there because trains have Wi-fi. They are such a cool method of transportation and severely underrated.
The ride up had some hiccups. There was a major delay when some part of the train was malfunctioning. So we sat in the middle of some state while they worked on it for almost 2 hours. Then we made it to a station about 1 hour away from Boston and had to stop due to a tree branch falling on the tracks. Apparently it had caused a fire, so most people bailed on the train and took Ubers to Boston.
Lucky for us, we were practicing our Italian and weren’t jumping ship just yet because the train started about 30 minutes later! So eventually we made it to Boston, grabbed our rental car, and made our way to Adam’s friend’s house about an hour out of the city.
It was the most beautiful house that looked like it was built of Lincoln logs! (If you recall that from the 90s). We played board games, ate delicious Italian food, and slept soundly that night. Just to get up at the crack of dawn (very haphazardly I might add) to head back into the city for breakfast with another of Adam’s friends. This led us to some of the most surprisingly delicious food I’ve eaten in a while!
We spent the day wandering around the city by foot, which is funny considering it was gusting winds and snowing at one point. But we survived the cold and even had fun doing it! We found the Freedom Trail and mostly walked along this historic route. (I say mostly because we definitely got turned around quite a few times). Eventually, we made it back to the car with full bellies and smiles on our faces. We were ready to get warm in a hotel for our last night!
For meals, we had some amazing Italian food, fresh cannoli’s, Boston cream pie, Croissant breakfast sandwiches, Banana Bread, and so much more! And we stayed at a very historic hotel that apparently past Presidents like to stay at. That’s where we ate some delicious Boston cream pie. Overall, our food adventures this weekend were 10/10.
The next day was just another early start to close the weekend because we had another train to catch back to DC. It was a whirlwind of a weekend and we had the absolute best time. Boston was a real treat!
